Apple Inc. says in a regulatory filing that it plans to lay off 190 employees of its secretive Titan self-driving car development project.
The documents indicate that Apple intends to shed at least two dozen software engineers and 40 hardware engineers. The cuts will occur at eight locations near the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, Calif., Reuters reports.
It isn’t clear whether these cuts are the same as the more than 200 layoffs confirmed by Apple in January. Apple remains uncommunicative about whether Titan is focused on control software for autonomous cars or strives to develop an entire self-driving vehicle.
