Audi AG’s upcoming e-tron GT electric sedan will have one of the fastest charging batteries in the industry when it debuts early next decade.
The carmaker says the stylish sedan will be designed to optimize new 350-kW charging systems now being installed in the U.S. and Europe. This will allow the e-tron GT to be charged to 80% capacity in about 12 minutes, senior e-tron product marketing manager Johannes Eckstein tells Autocar.
The e-tron GT will share an 800-volt platform with Porsche’s Taycan sedan due next year. Porsche estimates the Taycan will take about 15 minutes to achieve an 80% charge.
Audi’s first EVs, the e-tron crossover vehicle and e-tron Sportback, will take 30 minutes to achieve an 80% charge (250 miles of range). Those vehicles, which will launch next year, are built on a separate platform with a 400-volt electrical architecture.
Audi will unveil the e-tron GT at next month’s Los Angeles auto show.
