AVL to Equip California’s New Emissions Lab

Plymouth, Mich.-based AVL Test Systems Inc. has been chosen to provide the emission testing system for a new lab being built by the California Air Resources Board.
Located in Riverside, the $368 million complex is expected to open in 2021 with 18 dynamometers and 450 employees. The facility consolidates several existing CARB operations in southern California.
AVL, an engineering consultancy, notes that the lab will be set up to handle an unusually wide range of environments and powertrain types, including hybrid and all-electric systems.
The center also will be equipped to conduct evaporative emission tests. CARB predicts the facility will be the largest net-zero-energy structure in the U.S.
