Bentley Drops Bentayga Diesel in Europe

Volkswagen AG’s Bentley unit has discontinued the diesel option for its Bentayga crossover vehicle in Europe after two years.
Bentley will continue to offer the 4.0-liter V-8 diesel in 13 global markets, including Australia, Russia and South Africa. The engine is the first diesel in the luxury carmaker’s history.
The carmaker says the end of the diesel in Europe is due to a “significant shift” in consumer attitude away from diesels, plus more stringent environmental regulations that favor electrified powertrains.
This year the company debuted a gasoline 4.0-liter V-8 in the Bentayga. The model also will continue to be available with a 600-hp 6.0-liter W-12 gasoline engine. A plug-in hybrid variant that teams an electric motor with a V-6 engine also was added this year.
