BMW, Jaguar Land Rover and Porsche have invested a combined $21 million in Urgently Inc., a startup whose “Urgent.ly” platform enables drivers to hail tow trucks or service technicians.
The second-round funding will help the Vienna, Va.-based company further tailor its software to the needs of specific carmakers.
Urgent.ly’s service allows its users to choose roadside assistance the same way Lyft or Uber customers hail a ride from a pool of nearby drivers. The company’s app also displays a map that shows the progress of the selected assistance provider in reaching the caller’s vehicle.
The service has no annual membership fees. Users get a price for service ahead of time, which they paid with a credit card.
