General Motors Co. is discontinuing diesel-powered, all-wheel-drive variants of its Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain compact crossover vehicles for the 2020-model year.
The carmaker will continue to offer awd with the base 1.5-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine. But it’s unclear if the current 1.6-liter, 4-cylinder diesel will be offered in any front-wheel-drive versions of the crossovers.
The diesel vehicles generated 137 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque, and had a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency fuel efficiency rating of 32 mpg.
GM’s decision will make the Mazda CX-5 the only diesel-powered awd compact crossover available in the U.S., according to CarsDirect.
