SNAP is an electrified self-driving shuttle concept from Switzerland’s Rinspeed AG that carries detachable pods aboard a “skateboard” platform that contains the powertrain, battery and electronic controls.
The pods can act as stationary or moving conference rooms or lounges, says Rinspeed CEO Frank Rinderknecht. The skateboards could operate almost continuously as they swap pods, thus lowering costs.
Coordinating a fleet of such vehicles with other mobility options raises new business challenges about who “owns” the pods and skateboards, and how users would pay for them. Philipp Schartau, director of Innovation and Growth at EY, explains how EY’s Tesseract blockchain-based technology can integrate SNAP in multi-modal services.
