Daimler Opens Mobility Test Center in Germany

This week Daimler AG officially opened its proving grounds for advanced mobility technologies in Immendingen, Germany.
The €200-million ($235 million) complex will focus on autonomous, connected, electrified and shared vehicle technologies. About 170 people already work at the site, which is built on a former military base, and another 130 will be added in coming months.
Daimler says the center has more than 30 test tracks that can simulate a wide-range of driving conditions. Among them is a 1.1-million sq-ft area devoted to autonomous driving technologies.
There also is a one-mile network of roads designed to simulate city traffic conditions. The test area includes vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications.
Daimler demonstrated several technologies during the opening ceremony, including active braking, traffic jam assist and advanced sensors for autonomous vehicles.
