Daimler AG refutes a Der Spiegel report that the company faces a recall of 700,000 diesels, asserting that the vehicles are already part of a repair campaign announced in June.
Daimler says it continues to work with German regulators on emission control issues revealed in June that prompted a recall to update software in 774,000 diesels in Europe. The company refutes Der Spiegel’s claim that new problems have arisen that affect additional vehicles.
The magazine says illegal emission control software involves a combined 24 models of C-Class and S-Class sedans, certain SUV/crossovers and Vito light-duty commercial vans. The recall ordered by Germany’s transport minister in June did not mention S-Class cars.
Daimler insists that it has complied will Europe’s imprecise rules for testing diesel emissions and never willfully sought to violate the region’s pollution standards.
