Daimler, Volvo Plants Reopen after Hurricane Florence

Production has resumed at Daimler and Volvo assembly plants in South Carolina after Hurricane Florence, now downgraded to a tropical depression, swept through the region last weekend.
Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz van plant outside Charleston, S.C., shut down last Tuesday as the storm approached. Volvo Car Corp. soon did the same for its just-opened car plant several miles away.
BMW’s huge SUV plant in Spartanburg maintained relatively normal operations. But export shipments from the Port of Charleston were interrupted when the facility shut down last Thursday. The port resumed normal operations today.
Some of South Carolina’s major truck routes, including Interstates 40 and 95, continue to be disrupted by widespread flooding.
