EPA Exec Wehrum Resigns

Bill Wehrum, who has headed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s air quality department, resigned yesterday amid allegations of ethics violations.
EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler didn’t specify a reason for Wehrum’s departure. Anne Idsal, an EPA principal deputy administrator, will assume Wehrum’s duties until a fulltime replacement is named.
Wehrum was confirmed as assistant administrator of the EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation in November 2017. He has championed the Trump administration’s efforts to roll back air and vehicle emissions regulations enacted under President Barack Obama.
The Energy and Commerce Committee launched a probe into Wehrum activities after a Washington Post report raised questions about potential conflict of interests. Wehrum, who previously was a lobbyist for the energy industry, met with two former clients after taking the EPA job.
