Europe’s fleet of plug-in hybrids and all-electric vehicles grew to more than 1 million units in the first half of 2018 and is likely to reach 1.35 million by year-end, says EV-volumes.com.
The online database reports that year-on-year EV sales in Europe zoomed 42% to 195,000 units in January-June, with registrations split almost equally between hybrid and pure electric vehicles.
Europe’s largest market for electrified cars is Norway, where sales in the first half of the year climbed 9% to 36,500 units. Close behind is Germany, where sales for the six-month period surged 12% to 35,000.
EV-volumes predicts Germany will become Europe’s largest market for electrified vehicles in 2018 with full-year registrations of 88,500 units. Market penetration by country is the highest in Norway, where sales this year are likely to reach 45% of the entire passenger and light commercial vehicle market.
