Ex-Audi CEO Stadler Released from Jail
Rupert Stadler, the former CEO of Audi AG jailed in June on suspicion of interfering with a probe into diesel emission cheating, has been released.

Rupert Stadler, the former CEO of Audi AG jailed in June on suspicion of interfering with a probe into diesel emission cheating, has been released.
Audi cancelled Stadler’s contract four weeks ago, removing him from the boards of Audi and its parent, Volkswagen AG. Audi sales chief Abraham Schot has been acting CEO since then.
Prosecutors in Munich are conducting criminal investigations against Stadler and another unidentified senior Audi executive about their possible role in the cheating scandal. Audi and VW developed illegal software that enabled diesel engines to pass laboratory emission tests but discharge grossly higher levels of pollution under real-world driving conditions.
Terms of Stadler’s severance will be determined pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings against him.
