Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is spending €700 million ($788 million) to equip its assembly plant in Mirafiori, Italy, to make the all-electric version of the Fiat 500 minicar.

The factory will be able to make 80,000 of the EVs annually when production begins next spring, according to Pietro Gorlier, chief operating officer for Europe.
