FCA Extends Holiday Plant Shutdowns in N. America

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV says several of its assembly plants in the U.S. and Canada will be idled in early January to reduce inventories of unsold cars.
Last week Canadian union Infor said FCA will idle its minivan plant in Windsor, Ont., for eight days after the Christmas-New Year holiday period.
Now the company’s midsize sedan factory in Brampton, Ont., will be silenced through the week of Jan. 7, Automotive News reports. The newspaper says FCA’s pickup truck plant in Warren, Mich., also will be shut down through Jan. 7.
Three more U.S. plants—two in Detroit and one in Toledo—will operate through the Christmas-New Years week but then close for 4-8 days in early January. Those facilities make Jeep and Dodge SUVs and Ram pickup trucks.
