Ford Motor Co. and Mahindra Group will share powertrain and vehicle connectivity products under separate agreements.
The deals expand on five memoranda of understanding signed in March. Those documents define a broad non-equity alliance that will co-develop an electric car, an SUV, connected-car products, and an array of engines and transmissions.
Under today’s agreements, Mahindra will develop a small gasoline engine that Ford will use in India beginning in 2020. The companies also will co-develop a telematics control unit that will be used to deliver connected-vehicle services to vehicles marketed in the country under each company’s brand.
The partners anticipate additional joint projects in the future. The programs enable the companies to share Ford’s global reach with Mahindra’s dominance of the Indian market.
