Patrick Pelata, Renault SA’s former chief operating officer, has been named to help accelerate the French auto industry’s transition to electrified powertrains and autonomous-driving technology.

French President Emmanuel Macron asked Pelata, who resigned at Renault in 2011 after taking the blame for a bungled investigation into executive wrongdoing, to develop a plan to coordinate the industry’s efforts.

He will coordinate the work with Xavier Mosquet, a managing director at Boston Consulting Group, Automotive News Europe reports.

Pelata tells ANE that Macron wants a plan that will coordinate industry, trade group and government initiatives to bolster France’s competitiveness.
