Iteris Inc., a provider of applied transportation data, is teaming with Silicon Valley tech giant Cisco Systems Inc. on several traffic management and smart city initiatives.
The two California companies will integrate certain products along with their sales and marketing activities for shared customers. This includes using Cisco’s communication systems for current and future projects.
The partners also are jointly deploying a pilot program in Las Vegas. Combining data feeds from Iteris’ Vantage Next video detection platform with Cisco software, the project will analyze information gathered from connected cars, bicycles and pedestrians to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety.
In addition, the companies are working on “edge-computing” systems that push processing and analytic functions to sensors and other data sources rather than centralized nodes. Such applications will integrate Cisco hardware and software at the edge with Iteris’ intersection-as-a-service platform for connected vehicles and big data.
