Lear, Hyundai-Kia to Develop Advanced Positioning Tech

Lear Corp. has signed a development agreement for its new EXO Technology vehicle positioning technology with Hyundai Motor Co. and its Kia Motors Corp. affiliate.
EXO Technology combines near-instant positioning and high accuracy without the need for base stations. The proprietary cloud-computing and software system works with standard automotive GPS receivers to deliver centimeter-level accuracy anywhere in the world, according to Lear.
The supplier says EXO can be used for Level 2/3 autonomous vehicle systems and vehicle-to-vehicle and infrastructure applications.
Southfield, Mich.-based Lear will begin working with the Hyundai-Kia’s Michigan tech center in the next few months to develop commercial applications for the technology, including electronic hardware, sensor fusion software and the cloud-based EXO service.
