LG Chem Launches “Battery Challenge” for Startups

South Korea’s LG Chem Ltd. is holding an innovation contest for startup companies developing next-generation battery technologies.
The company says it will accept applications for its “Battery Challenge” through Nov. 2. in four categories: battery materials; management and control; design, manufacturing and processing; and recycle/regeneration.
LG Chem will select eight finalists, based on their technologies and business plans, who will make formal presentations in February at the supplier’s “Demo Day” in Silicon Valley. As much as $1.9 million will be split among the finalists. LG Chem engineers also will work with the companies to further develop and commercialize the technologies.
