Lucid Moves Forward with Plans to Launch EV Next Year
Silicon Valley-based electric vehicle startup Lucid Motors Inc. aims to break ground this spring on a $700 million manufacturing facility in Casa Grande, Ariz., and begin making luxury EVs there in 2020.

Silicon Valley-based electric vehicle startup Lucid Motors Inc. aims to break ground this spring on a $700 million manufacturing facility in Casa Grande, Ariz., and begin making luxury EVs there in 2020.
The facility, which will produce the Lucid Air sedan, is expected to employ as many as 2,000 people.
In addition, Lucid has moved into a new 305,000-sq-ft headquarters in Newark, Calif. The facility includes a design studio and engineering lab.
The five-passenger Air is expected to have a 400-hp electric motor and be able to travel 240 miles per charge. A fully loaded Air Launch edition will feature all-wheel drive, a 1,000-hp powertrain and a range of 315 miles.
Last year, Lucid signed an agreement with Volkswagen AG’s Electrify America unit that will provide buyers of the Air with a nationwide charging plan. Electrify America plans to have more than 2,000 Level 2 charging stations at 500 locations across the U.S. by June.
