Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz Trucks unit says its new Actros model will be the first production heavy-duty truck to include partially automated driver assistance systems when the vehicle is launched next spring.
The truck’s Active Drive Assist system can control braking, steering and throttle functions at any speed, according to the truckmaker. Integrating information from cameras and radar sensors, the system add stop-and-go capabilities to Mercedes’ existing lane-keeping assistance and adaptive cruise control systems.
Mercedes says the new Actros is more aerodynamic and fuel-efficient than the outgoing model. The truck features more than 60 innovations, including Mercedes’ fifth-generation Active Brake Assist technology that alerts motorists about potential rear-end collisions.
