The all-electric version of Kia Motors Corp.’s redesigned Soul compact crossover vehicle will feature a more powerful battery and longer driving range.
The new Soul EV will borrow the 39-kWh battery used in the larger Niro EV but won’t offer that vehicle’s optional 64-kWh battery. The 39-kWh battery will provide an estimated 140-mile range. That compares with a 111-mile U.S. rating for the current model’s 30-kWh battery.
Kia will unveil the 2020 Soul later this month at the Los Angeles auto show. The electric version and base model with a stand-alone gasoline engine will be launched in the U.S. early next year and elsewhere shortly thereafter. Europe will offer only the electric variant.
