Side mirrors with integrated rear-view cameras and other sensors have been stolen from at least 19 luxury vehicles in New York City over the last two months.
The mirror/camera units are valued at as much as $2,000 according to the New York Post. Such cameras are used in a variety of driver-assist systems designed to aid parking maneuvers, keep vehicles in their lanes and detect vehicles and other objects.
The thefts, all occurring in the city’s affluent Upper West Side district, involved high-end Audi, BMW, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche models.
