Four Suppliers Win GM Innovation Awards

General Motors Co. recognized four suppliers—BorgWarner, Continental Structural Plastics (CSP), Innolux and Multimatic—for product innovation as part of the company’s Supplier of the Year awards.
BorgWarner was selected for its “dual-volute” turbocharger technology used in the the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra fullsize pickup trucks. Adapted from diesel turbochargers in commercial vehicles, the pickup truck applications help reduce turbo lag in gasoline engines, according to GM.
CSP supplies the carbon fiber cargo bed for the Sierra. The unit is 62 lbs lighter than a traditional steel bed and offers superior strength and durability.
The Sierra also features a flexible “MultiPro” tailgate developed by Markham, Ont.-based Multimatic. The six-function system is designed to improve loading, entry/egress and overall ergonomics.
The fourth innovation winner, Taiwan-based Innolux, provides a touchscreen with low reflectivity. GM says the system has a solid black appearance when the screen is off.
Multimatic was the only innovation winner to be included in GM’s 133 Supplier of the Year honorees from 15 countries. Companies were chosen by a global team of GM purchasing, engineering, quality, manufacturing and logistics executives based on various delivery, performance, pricing and quality metrics. More than half of the 133 suppliers are repeat winners from 2018.
Four suppliers—Lear, Penske, Shiloh and Stanadyne—received GM’s Overdrive Award for leadership in cultural change and commitment initiatives. GM presented the awards at a banquet in Warren, Mich., last weekend.
