Renault SA and Nissan Motor Co. have created a 50:50 joint venture in Shanghai to develop next-generation technologies and new mobility services.
The so-called Alliance Innovation Lab will work on systems for autonomous, connected, electric and shared vehicles. Technologies developed by the partners will be applied to Renault and Nissan vehicles worldwide.
Together with alliance partner Mitsubishi Motors Corp., Renault and Nissan aim to launch a combined 12 EV models by 2022. By that time, the partners expect virtually all new models will have some level of connectivity and at least 40 new models will be offered with varying levels of autonomy.
