Report: Toyota Tundra Pickup Getting Hybrid Option

Toyota Motor Corp. will offer a hybrid-electric version of its Tundra fullsize pickup truck when the 2021 model is introduced next year, reports TFLTruck.
Company sources tell the website that the Tundra’s hybrid will team a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine with an electric motor. The combination generates 450 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque in the Lexus LS 500h hybrid sedan.
The hybrid system could increase the Tundra’s U.S. Environmental Protection Agency highway fuel efficiency rating to 30 mpg or more, according to the report. This compares with 19 mpg on the highway for the 2019 Tundra (pictured) when powered by a 4.6-liter V-8 engine.
The redesigned Tundra also is expected to get a new front-end and tailgate design. TFLTruck says the look of the new truck’s body and cab hasn’t been finalized.
