Swiss authorities have halted the sale of diesel-powered Mercedes-Benz Vito vans and Porsche Cayenne and Macan SUVs, claiming their engines were rigged to evade emission laws.
The ban covers diesels displacing 1.6 liters (Vito), 3.0 liters (Macan) and 4.2 liters (Cayenne) and applies to vehicles imported beginning on Aug. 17, according to the country’s FEDRO highway authority. All three engines are certified to meet Euro 6 emission standards.
Reuters reports that FEDRO also has ordered Mercedes and Porsche to retrofit targeted models that have already been sold in Switzerland.
