Tesla Inc. is adding a battery software management update to its electric cars after at two cases in Asia where the batteries in parked Tesla Model S sedans caught fire.

The company is investigating both incidents, the first of which occurred in a Shanghai parking garage four weeks ago. A fire broke out under similar circumstances in Hong Kong on May 12.
This week’s upgrade is being distributed wirelessly to Tesla Model S and Model X vehicles worldwide, the Financial Times reports. The patch, which revises charge and thermal management protocols, will protect the battery and improve its service life, according to the carmaker.
