Toyota, Isuzu End Diesel Partnership

Toyota Motor Corp. and Isuzu Motor Ltd. have agreed to dissolve their 12-year-old capital alliance on diesel engine development.
Toyota says it will sell the 5.9% stake in Isuzu it acquired when the partnership was launched in 2006. The companies initially planned to share jointly developed diesels, but they abandoned that objective in 2009.
The partners indicate they will maintain their relationship and cooperate on other basic technologies. But they say they ended the diesel program because of a lack of progress, coupled with the profound market shift from diesels to other fuel-efficient propulsion options.
