Toyota, Chinese Startup Partner on Autonomy

Toyota Motor Corp. is partnering with Chinese startup Pony.ai to develop and deploy self-driving vehicles in China.
The companies plan to begin pilot tests next month on public roads in Beijing and Shanghai, Bloomberg News reports. Toyota tells the news service the partners will install Pony’s autonomous driving system in Lexus RX crossover test vehicles.
Launched in 2016, Pony has raised $300 million in outside funding and has a market valuation of $1.7 billion, according to Bloomberg. The Chinese company also is testing its self-driving vehicles in California.
