U.K. Companies Partner on EV Battery Venture
Williams Advanced Engineering Ltd. and Unipart Manufacturing Group have formed a joint venture called Hyperbat Ltd. to make batteries for hybrid and electric vehicles.

Williams Advanced Engineering Ltd. and Unipart Manufacturing Group have formed a joint venture called Hyperbat Ltd. to make batteries for hybrid and electric vehicles.
Hyperbat plans to launch production early next year to supply batteries for Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd.’s upcoming Rapid E electric supercar. Both partners and the joint venture are based in the U.K.
Hyperbat says additional customers will be announced in coming months. The company also plans to supply batteries for marine and aircraft applications.
Unipart, which supplies a variety of engine, exhaust and fuel system components, is converting a 100-year-old factory at its Coventry complex to produce batteries for Hyperbat. The facility will employ 90 people.
Williams Advanced Engineering supplies the batteries for Formula E electric race cars and other special projects, including Jaguar Vector Racing’s electric boat, which set a world speed record. The company, an offshoot of Williams Group’s Formula One team, also developed a lightweight platform for EVs.
