VW Affirms China Mobility Plans

Volkswagen AG has signed letters of intent with its Chinese partners FAW Group and Jianghuai Automobile Co. (JAC) to develop and commercialize next-generation technologies for electrified, connected, shared and autonomous cars.
The partnerships also involve the China Intelligent and Connected Vehicles Research Institute in Beijing. Under the agreements, the companies plan to develop and produce components for new-energy vehicles, develop a battery-charging infrastructure, expand vehicle connectivity and data services, and enhance autonomous driving.
Earlier this year, VW, FAW and JAC announced plans to spend a combined €15 billion ($17.6 billion) on such projects through 2022. The partners expect to introduce 40 locally produced plug-in hybrid and all-electric models in China by 2025. VW began building its first EV in China, a small crossover called the Sol E20X, this spring at JAC’s plant in Hefei.
