VW Offers €8,000 Incentives to Diesel Owners in Germany
Volkswagen AG’s VW brand is offering diesel owners throughout Germany “environmental” incentives worth as much as €8,000 ($9,200) to trade in their old cars for cleaner models.
Volkswagen AG is offering diesel owners throughout Germany “environmental” incentives worth as much as €8,000 ($9,200) to scrap their old cars for cleaner models.
The offer applies to certain of the group’s diesels that were certified to meet Euro 1-Euro 4 emission standards. VW Group also is offering “exchange” discounts as great as €7,000 ($8,000) for customers in 14 of Germany’s most heavily polluted cities. The latter campaign applies to diesels certified to Euro 4 and Euro 5 levels as an incentive for owners to upgrade to a Euro 6-certified vehicle.
The two programs aim at defusing political demands for outright bans on diesels by cities struggling to meet air quality standards.
