A German court has ordered Volkswagen AG to reimburse the original purchase price of nearly €30,000 ($34,000) for a 2012 diesel it had rigged to evade emission standards.
The court ruled that VW had acted immorally by fitting the car with cheater software that helped the company boost sales and profits. VW admitted in 2015 that is employed illegal software to enhance the performance of 11 million diesels sold worldwide.
But the company tells Reuters it believes there is no legal basis for customer complaints about the cheating. It asserts that the affected vehicles are safe and roadworthy, and it claims owners have suffered no losses or damages.
