VW Will Trim Workforce at Slovakia Factory

Volkswagen AG says it will shed about 500 jobs and reduce its use of contractors at the company’s assembly complex in Bratislava, Slovakia, to help meet its goal of hiking efficiency 30% by 2025.
The reductions will be the first for the plant since the 2009 global recession, Reuters reports. The factory makes Audi A7, Porsche Cayenne and VW Touareg crossover vehicles; and SEAT Mii, Skoda Citigo and VW Up minicars.
The Bratislava complex employs about 14,000 people. VW says the staff cuts will be offset by improved production efficiency, leaving overall output unchanged.
Reuters notes that Slovakia’s four vehicle assembly plants built 1.08 million vehicles in 2018 and are likely to reach output of 1.15 million units this year.
