Zoox Robo-Car Gets High-Tech Suspension, Steering

The autonomous vehicle being developed by California startup Zoox Inc. will include a fully independent suspension and a steer-by-wire system that enables all-wheel steering.
The technology will enable improved safety and maneuverability for upcoming robo-taxis, Zoox chief technology officer and co-founder Jesse Levinson tells attendees at a recent Tech Crunch conference. He says the additional costs of the systems will be amortized over the longer expected life of such vehicles.
Zoox’s four-seater also will get four lidar units (one at each corner) and seats that can be turned to face each other. Initial models are expected to be slightly larger than BMW’s i3 electric city car.
